About Cornelia Schelhaas
Cornelia (Cora) Schelhaas, 87, Edgerton, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at Pipestone County Medical Center, Pipestone.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery.
Cornelia was born to Klaas and Anna (Van Ameyden) Hoek on March 24, 1919 in Moulton Township, Murray County, where she was raised and attended country schools around Chandler. Following her education she continued to reside in the area.
She married Jacob Alfred Schelhaas on July 10, 1953 at her brother's farm near Holland.
Cora was a homemaker as well as a clerk at Huiskens Brothers Store in Edgerton. Following their retirement, they continued to reside in Edgerton.
In February of 2003 she and her husband moved to the Slayton Manor in Slayton. Jacob preceded her in death on May 22, 2003. After his death, Cora moved to the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton in June of 2003.
She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton and enjoyed volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission. She was also a member of the Edgebrook Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two sisters, Anne Talsma and Minnie Huisken, both from Edgerton; many nieces and nephews and three brothers-in-law, John Schelhaas, Ruthton, Vernon Schelhaas, Edgerton and Lloyd Schelhaas, Lakewood, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; four sisters, Susie Tinklenberg, Nellie Hoek, Christina Tinklenberg, Clara Vander Woude, brother, Pete Hoek and an infant brother, John.
