About Costanza di Savoia
Note from curator 7/27/2015
Timothy Ritchie presents a case that Constance of Maurienne (aka Constanza di Savoia) Costanza di Savoia was incorrect on the Geni tree. She was originally placed as the daughter of Umberto I (b 970).
Timothy argues that she was both (1) the daughter of Umberto's grandson Amédée II, count of Savoy (born c 1032) and Jeanne de Genève (born c 1040) and (2) the wife of Odon II of Montferrat (c. 1015-1084) Otto II Aleramid, marquis of Montferrat. This is supported by several Wikipedia entries and Italian genealogy websites.
However, her dates are a dilemma. We originally had a 1030 birth year for her, which would make her older than her parents and a much younger bride for Odon (b.c. 1015). However, if she had been born when Jeanne was age 20, for example, her birth year would be 1060, which would make her an extraordinarily younger bride for Odon and not likely to be the parents of his offspring.
The racinehistoire tree http://racineshistoire.free.fr/LGN/PDF/Montferrat.pdf has her born c 1017 and does not indicate her parentage, but the second page of this document provides a tree for her and Odon's offspring, with son Guglielmo born around 1035-40.
Until we determine which parents she belongs to, I'm going to put her in the most likely time slot and prioritize the marriage to Montferrat. Please let me know if you can find some stronger documentation as to whom her parents are.
Thanks,
Pam Wilson

Constance was not Adelaide's daughter. Adelaide would have been 10 at her birth. Constance was Oton (Otto) Adelaide's third husband's sister. Both their father was Humbert or Umberto White hand of Savoy. Constance married a Montferrat. The brother of Adelaide's first husband. After her third husband died she wanted to marry him because Constance had also died. the church would not allow it because she had been married to his brother and he had been married to her husband's sister. the church thought that was way too confusing and said no. Anyway, Adelaide did have a granddaughter named Constance after the aunt or sister -in-law.
Sincerely,
Timothy Ritchie
