About Cpl. Richard Falley, Sr.
2nd Great Grandfather of President Stephen Grover Cleveland, through his granddaughter, Margaret, daughter of Richard Falley and Margaret (Hitchcock) Falley.
Richard Falley was born on the Isle of Guernsey in 1711/1712. The family name is written also as Falle, Fally, Faly, Faile in various church, military & town records. He was baptized as an adult in the First Church of Christ in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts 30 July 1727. On 21 May 1735 his name appears as Richard Faly, corporal, on the Muster Roll of Capt. John Gyles at St. Georges' Fort, Georges' River, Dist. of Maine.
He married in St. Georges' River (now Cushing, Maine) about 1739, Ann Lamb, daughter of Richard Lamb of Dublin, who died at sea while on his way to Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts with six of his eight children.
By 1746, he was living with his wife Ann in Concord, Middlesex, Massachusetts. In 1751 he was living in Ware River Parish, (Ware, Hampshire, Massachusetts), and before 1753, he and his family were residing in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts where he opened one of the earliest shops on the southwest corner of the village green. His family resided in Westfield after his death from consumption 28 April 1756 at the age of 45.
