About Cypros ., Princess of Judaea

Birth Date: Estimated around time period between her elder sister's birth & her mother's death.

Was Mariamne Hasmonean's daughter's name Cypros or Mariamne?

  • Cypros, according to Josephus The Antiquities of the Jews, 18.130: Herod the Great had two daughters by Mariamne, the [grand] daughter of Hyrcanus; the one was Salampsio, who was married to Phasaelus, her first cousin, who was himself the son of Phasaelus, Herod’s brother, her father making the match; the other was Cypros, who was herself married also to her first cousin Antipater, the son of Salome, Herod’s sister.
  • Cypros, according to Wagner, Sir Anthony Richard; ‘Pedigree and Progress: Essays in the Genealogical Interpretation of History’
  • Cypros according to Wikipedia: "Mariamne bore Herod four children: two sons, Alexandros and Aristobulus (both executed in 7 BCE), and two daughters, Salampsio and Cypros. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariamne_I
  • But Mariamne, according to The Jewish Woman's Archive: "Herod and Mariamme were married for ten years. She bore him five children during those years—his heirs Alexander and Aristobulus, another son who died and two daughters, Shelamziyyon and Mariamme. In 27 B.C.E. Herod had Mariamme executed." http://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/mariamme-i-hasmonean

Until more information can be garnered, I'm presuming Cypros is the Greek name for this daughter, & Mariamne the Hebrew [Sharon Oct 2014 - Please comment on the Discussion]
