Daniël "Danie" van der Walt ( (1954 - 2023)

Brief overview:

Danie (69), and his wife Heila Magdalena van der Walt, known as Magda (68), were gruesomely murdered in the dining room of their home in Casseldale, Springs on 12th January 2023.

It was initially suspected that Magda and Danie were assaulted with a pipe, but it was later uncovered that they had sustained several stab wounds to their bodies and that a sharp object was probably used to commit the murders.

Danie van Zyl, Magda's son-in-law, had planned to take her to the shops that day, but when he arrived at her house he found the couples' bodies. He then ran outside and called his wife Mariska.

They found that the safe had been opened and emptied, and the couples' wardrobes were also open.

Magda and Danie were both lying on their backs with their heads together in a large pool of blood. "The way the bodies were found that day makes it seem as if the scene was staged," said Mariska, Magda's daughter.

Magda's bank cards were on the dining room table. A bloody pipe, an unknown shirt and an old sword were later found in the house.

At this stage, the results of the post-mortem examination are still awaited. "According to the police, it could take three years to be completed."

Since the murders, the case has been transferred to the police's murder and robbery unit, but the Van Zyls are not hopeful that the case will be solved, especially since no one has been arrested yet.
