About Daniel Black

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db...

ID: I9015

Name: Daniel BLACK 1

Sex: M

Birth: ABT 1745

John's father's name was Daniel Black. My earliest date for him was 1764 in Loudoun County, Virginia. He was there until 1789 when he sold the crop that was on the property he was buying on a land contract. He was sued by the owner because it was said that he hadn't made the payments on the land. I'm kind of glad he didn't pay otherwise, we couldn't know what happened to him when he left. He went to Allegany County, Maryland/Hampshire County, Virginia at least until 1808 when he is gone. I think I have him some where in my notes that I found him in Athens County, Ohio about that time but I have So many notes to check. I don't know the name of his wife. I think it was a Semonis, but I don't have any proof of that. I'm again guessing that her first name was Elizabeth or Margaret because those names are used so much in this family. I have 7 children for him and their families for several generations.

This is from an email from Arlene Hale Brachman.

1810 Census Wythe County Virginia. Page 2/39 David Black and a John Black are listed. Arlene says these are ours. These two are believed to be the sons of Daniel.

This information is from Ancestry, Sandra Mutert found these and Arlene Hale Brachman verified they are our family. It is my belief (Cathy Black Schaller) because of the ages of David (Daniel) and John that they are the sons of Daniel. John is my direct line.

Our first record of Daniel is on the tithe lists of Loudoun County, Virginia 1765. It wasn't a new county so he came from somewhere else. Probably down from Penn. Now whether he is an immigrant or the son of an immigrant is something we will still need to learn. There was a William and a Hugh Black in Loudoun County, before Daniel arrived but they were gone by the time he came. I've (Arlene Hale Brachman) done work on every family he had anything/transactions with in homes of connecting him, nothing came up as proof.

Most names are listed singly on the title and then the tax lists. But Daniel Black was always listed on the same line with John Semonis. This makes me think they were married to each others sister and all lived in the same household. Something about 1786 that broke this arrangement up. What I think is that Daniel's wife died and he remarried the widow of Conrad Waggoner.

Daniel Black went to Allegany County, Maryland with the rest of his children. In 1803 Daniel bought land in Hampshire County, West Virgina (Just across the river from Allegany County, Maryland. He sold in 1807 with his wife, Christina relinquishing her dower. Christina is a pretty name but not one of Daniels children ever named a child Christina, which makes me think she wasn't the mother of those children, but the second wife and the widow of Conrad Waggoner. Dennis and Peter Waggoner were witnesses when Benjamin Black married in Bedford in 1800. So parts of the family remained close.

This information came from the book Descendants of Daniel Black of Loudoun County, Virgina by Arlene Hale Brachman page 1.

This is from the Loudoun County Book from the Revolutionary War. This was filed on April 9, 1782 I do believe the following is our Daniel Black. http://vagensearch.com/AmericanRevolution/PatrioticService/1782Apri...
