Daniel Webster b. at Dracut, Mass. 14 Feb., 1841, enlisted Oct.. 1861 in Co. E, 13th Regt .Ill. Cavalry under Capt Danforth in Col. Bell's regiment; corporal and afterwards sergeant; was in Cotton Plant fight; his company was second in going into Little Rock Jan., 1864; at Pilot Knob. He was shot through the knee near Pine Bluff, Arkansas and was left on the field and found dead on the morning of 12 Sept., 1864 from flow of blood.

Note: Illinois records show service in Co. F and C. No records found for service in Co. E

Per Wikipedia entry:

The original eight companies of the 13th Illinois Cavalry was mustered into service at Camp Douglas, Illinois between October 30, 1861 and February 20, 1862. Surviving members of the regiment were consolidated into a battalion of three companies on May 20, 1863. Seven new companies were added to the regiment in February, 1864.

The regiment was mustered out on August 31, 1865.

Total strength and casualties The regiment suffered 21 enlisted men who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 4 officers and 360 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 385 fatalities.
