The following fact was gleamed from the History of Rutland:

Mr. Daniel Davis and Lydia, his wife, were early settlers of Rutland ; they were admitted into the church, May 23, 1731. Mr. Davis was an active and useful townsman; his farm was on the road that leads from Rutland to the Province Farm, where for many years a tavern was kept. The births and marriages of their children were as follows : Lydia, born June 20, 1728, married to Francis How, Jan. 22, 1745 ; Daniel, born Aug. 27, 1730, married to Sarah Phelps, May 3, 1753; Hannah, born April 29, 1735, married to Clark Gibbs, Oct. 12, 1752; Jesse, born May 24, 1740, married to Hannah Estabrook, June 5, 1760; Lucy, born March 31, 1746, married to Samuel Hubbard of Holden. Daniel Davis died Oct. 9, 1764. Lydia, wife of Daniel Davis, died Sept. 15, 1764. Sarah, wife of Daniel Davis, Jr., died Nov. 29, 1764. Mr. Davis and his wife had two children that died young.

Dolor Davis A Sketch of his Life with a Record of His Earlier Descendants by Horace Davis Printed 1881 page 42 under the heading Children of Daniel and Mary (Hubbard) Davis. Item 2 Daniel, born September 29, 1701; probably moved to Rutland. Not sure why Horace said probably when I know for a fact that he did move there that is where he died and at least three of his sibling moved to Rutland also and his children was born in Rutland. I guess Horace never read the history of Rutland book or followed up on the Rutland birth , marriage, and death records.

The land was named Rutland, Mass. Daniel wasan early settler in Rutland, as were his brothers Jonathan, Ephraim, and Nathan. Therewere a number of others named Davis who were most if not all related to Daniel through his grandfather Samuel or his great grandfather Dolar. Daniel Davis Jr. Married Lydia Ames in Groton, Mass. on 21 Mar, 1726-27. Lydia was the daughter of John and Priscilla (Kimball) Ames. Lydia was born in Boxford, Mass. and baptized 1 Apr, 1710. Her father, John Ames was killed by Indians in Groton, Mass., 2 years before Lydia and Daniel were married.
