About Daniel Denton
Abigail and Daniel Denton had two [SIC: three] children:
1. Daniel Denton, born about 1661, died 1690, married about 1681 to Deborah (possibly Deborah Scudder).
"Around 1659, Denton married Abigail Stevenson, who bore three children, and from whom he was divorced in 1672. The two elder children, Daniel and Abigail, remained with their father, while the infant daughter, Mercy, accompanied her mother, who subsequently remarried." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Denton
Biography
From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Denton-2957
Daniel Denton (second of the name in his line) was born around 1661 or '62 to Daniel and Abigail (Stevenson) Denton on Long Island, probably in Jamaica, then part of New Netherland. His parents divorced and remarried in the 1670s. He was baptised at age 17 or 18 at the Dutch Church in Flatbush on 14 December 1679.[1]
Before he reached the age of majority, Daniel and Deborah Leonard, his step-mother's younger sister, eloped to Rhode Island. On 27 September 1681, they were presented for their action in Springfield, Massachusetts, and sentenced to a fine of £5 "or else within a fortnights time to make publique confession before ye Church of Springfield to ye satisfaction in ye judgement of Charity."[2]
For years, researchers did not know the identity of Deborah, Daniel's wife. But the settlement of her parents' estate[3][4] and the will of Daniel's father-in-law, Daniel Whitehead,[5] show that she was a daughter of John Leonard and Sarah (Heald) (Leonard) (Parsons) Tilton.
In his last known record, Daniel Denton, Jr., witnessed a deed from Nathaniel Denton to Samuel Denton on 18 October 1690.[6]
Walter Krumm concluded that Daniel died around 1690, and specifically that he predeceased his father, who himself died before 13 March 1695/6,[7] but Krumm does not provide reasoning for the date of 1690, nor how we might know that he predeceased his father. Daniel, Jr. was certainly deceased by the time his step-father executed his will on 9 December 1703.[5]
Children of Daniel and Deborah (Leonard) Denton:[5]
- Daniel Denton (III), b. circa 1685?
- Abigail Denton, b. circa 1687?
- Deborah Denton, b. circa 1689?
Both daughters have not been located after their appearance in Daniel Whitehead's will.
Collections of the New York Historical Society, 1892. pp.396-9, "Abstracts of wills on file in the Surrogate's office, city of New York, Vol. 25", New York (State). Will of Daniel Whitehead dated November 13, 1703.
The Will of Daniel Whitehead lists many people to whom he bequeathed portions of his estate.
