Daniel Price, erroneously called Daniel John Price.

7. DANIEL PRICE10,14,15 was born in 1689 in Henrico County, Virginia. He died in 1770 at the age of 81 in Henrico County, Virginia.

Daniel’s will was written 21 Feb 1767 and proven in Henrico Co., VA, on 07 Mar 1770 (Henrico Co. Miscellaneous Court Records VI, p. 2001). Daniel and Mary had children John, Daniel, William, Elizabeth, and Hannah.

Henrico Co Court 1696. Thomas Williamson brought in William Sowes and Theo. Carter as his security for the estate of Daniel Price, orphan, in the hands of Thomas Williamson.

ADVENTURERS OF PURSE & PERSON has a bit different interpretation of this item. William Sewell & Thodorick Carter "voluntarily offer them selves secu'ty for the Estate belonging to Danll. Price's orpts. in the hand of Thos. Williamson" This obviously indicates that there was more than one child as orphan of Daniel Price.

During Jun Court of 1711, Daniel Price declared he had received his full part of his dec'd father's estate from Thomas Williamson who had intermarried with Susan, his mother. He acquitted the said Thomas Williamson from any future claims to his said dec'd father Dan'l Price's estate. ADVENTURERS OF PURSE & PERSON indicates that this receipt was in June of 1714.

A deed of Aug 1692, indicates an earlier partnership of William Porter Junior and Daniel Price Sr and secured Daniel Jr's portion of the joint patent Porter had taken up with his father 21 Aug 1689. Porter refers to Daniel as Daniel-John Price, the youngest son of the deceased Daniel Price - indicating that their were other children of Daniel Price and Susannah Carter. When Daniel later sold this parcel, he signed the deed simply Daniel Price. This deed is apparently the only reference to Daniel as Daniel John. On 7 Jun 1714, Daniel Price sold to Patrick Burk, 50 acres in Henrico Co at the head of Deep Run, bounding the lines of William and Joseph Watkins, being part of a greater divided granted by patent to Danl Price Sr and Wm Porter.

On 19 Sep 1732, Ashford Hughes of Goochland sold 400 acres to Daniel Price - the land had been taken up by Hughes & Price and patented in both their names 27 Sep 1729. This land was on the South side of the James on Deep Creek, adjacent John Taylor, John Woodson, Mosby & Tabor. Witnesses were Stephen Hughes, William Lewis and Robert Stapleton. On 18 Apr 1738 Daniel Price of Henrico sold to Milo Gathright of Goochland land on the South side of the James, adj John Taylor, John Woodson, Deep Creek, Mosley. Mary, wife of Daniel, relinquished her dower rights.

In December of 1735, Daniel Price along with William Lewis & Henry Hatcher was ordered to Procession land in Henrico Co from the mouth of Gilley's Creek to Wm Lewis' on Chickahominy Swamp.

Daniel was a church warden & vestryman of Henrico Parish.

Henrico DB 1750-1774 p.719 9 Oct 1742. Bond of Edward Watkins to James Cocke Gent. for 500£ and to end a suit for settling a divisional line. James Cocke 2 years since commenced a chancerty suit against Edward Watkins to run a divisional line pursuant to agreement and deed made to the said James Cocke by William & James Watkins. Said line now determed in begin at black shrub oak between Edward Watkins and Daniel Price, each side the main stream of Deep Run and up Chickahominay Swamp, adj. Edward Curd & Daniel Price to include Cocke's land purchased of William and James Watkins. Signed; Edward [E] Watkins. Wit: Andrew Barclay, Samuel Thompson. Rec 5 Apr 1762 [20 years later]

The will of Daniel Price was dated 21 Feb 1767 and proved 5 Mary 1770 in Henrico Co. He gave to his son John Price the plantation he was already living on. Son Daniel Price to receive the plantation his father lived on with lands adjoining on the Chickahominy Swamp. Daughter Elizabeth Oglesby was to receive a slave that would go to her son Jesse Oglesby upon her death, or if he should not live, to grandaughter Ann Curd. [Elizabeth was married first to John Curd and then to Richard Oglesby.] Daughter Hannah Harwood, a slave. To grandaughter Elizabeth Harwood, a slave. Three sons, John, Daniel and William to receive the remainder, paying each daughter 5 £. They were executors as well. Witnessess: Richard Williamson [half-brother of Daniel], Thomas Watkins.

DANIEL PRICE and MARY HUGHES were married. MARY HUGHES16 died before 1770 in Amelia County, Virginia.16

Mary was probably a sister to Ashford Hughes.

ii. John PRICE17,18,19 was born about 1714.16 He died about 1782 at the age of 68.16

A John Price married Mary White, daughter of Col. White of Hanover Co VA. It cannot be proved conclusively that this John Price is the same man as the John Price named in the Will of Daniel Price in 1767. Daniel gave his son John, the plantation where he was already living, but did not give any description of this land. Another researcher has stated that John Price who married Mary White was a son of a Samuel Price who came to Virginia in 1685 and married Elizabeth Pryor. Nothing has been found in regard to said Samuel Price. There was a marriage between a Samuel Price and an Elizabeth Perriere in Goochland in 1763. Elizabeth's name was probably Puryear and this Samuel was actually the son of John Price and Mary White.

Although not conclusive here are indications that John who married Mary White was the same as John, son of Daniel: John Price lived on a plantation known as Chantilly which was located on Deep Run Road, [Deep Run being the location of his father's land inherited in 1714.] An indenture from James Woodson to John Williamson in Henrico Co 15 Jul 1752, stated that the land was adjacent that of John Price's on Horsepen Branch. [John Woodson's land had been adjucent to that of Daniel Price; John Williamson was quite possibly Daniel's half-brother. 2 May 1758, John Price begged leave to build a water grist mill, and for one acre of Samuel Allen Jr's land adjacent to the proposed mill. A jury was ordered to view the said land and report. [William Price, proved son of Daniel, married Mary Williamson, whose mother Elizabeth Curd, widow of Cuthbert Williamson, had married as her second husband, Samuel Allen.]

Rec. 5 Jul 1762. 1767-1774 p.64 4 Jul 1768 John Price of Henrico to his son Samuel. 200 acres on Watson's path; adj Col. Byrd's line and part of the land I now live on. Signed: John Price. Rec. 4 Jul 1768. p.65 4 Jul 1768 John Price of Henrico to his son James, 100 acres on Jordan's Branch, adj Wm Byrd Esq., William Sneed, Nathaniel Bridgwater & John Kelley, being the land I purchased of Zachariah Tate. Signed: John Price Rec. 4 Jul 1768 p.177 13 May 1769 Richard Hooper to Elizabeth Porter to settle all differences for a marriage "suddenly intended", 30 acres on Gilley's Creek, adj Alexander Robertson & others; featherbed and furniture, plates, pots, etc. Signed: Richard Hooper. Wit: John Price, Mary Price, John Price, Jr. Rec. 4 Sep 1769 [I believe this deed indicates further proof that this is indeed the John Price cited in the will of Daniel Price of Henrico. Daniel had at one time processioned an area which included Gilley's Creek. There had also been an earlier relationship between John's grandfather Daniel Price and the Porter family.]

John Price's will was destroyed by the British. At court on 15 Mar 1783, a copy of his will was presented was presented by Mary Williamson and ordered to be re-recorded. John named wife Mary Price. Sons, Samuel, Barrett, John, William and Elisha. Daughters, Martha Hodges, Mary Leonard, Sarah Williamson, and Catherine Wood. A grandson John Stake/Stark was also named.

Sons not named in the will were James and Daniel. Daniel is said to have moved to Bedford County.

iii. Daniel PRICE17,20 was born about 1725.16 He died between 1774 and 1782 at the age of 49.16

From the Price Book: Daniel is said to have married Mary Cocke but no proof has been established. The Price and Cocke families were often associated in Henrico Co. Mary, "wife of Daniel Price", relinquished her dower rights when Daniel Price and James Cocke sold 200 acres to Edward Curd on 1 Nov 1762. Daniel received land on Chickahominy Swamp in his father's will. The actual Deed Abstract of the above is somewhat different and says the Mary who relinquished was the wife of John Cocke, not Daniel Price. No wife for Daniel Price was listed in the deed. Henrico DB 1767-1774 p.460 11 Feb 1773 Daniel Price of Henrico Co to his son Charles for true love and natural affection, 400 acres conveyed to the sd Daniel Price by deed from William Byrd, Esq. 2 May 1771. Signed: Daniel Price. Rec. April Court 1773

The last record of Daniel Price seems to be when he witnessed a deed from Charles Lewis to Edward Curd in Apr 1774, Henrico Co. In 1783, his sons Joseph, John, and Robert Price had his will [destroyed by the British] re-recorded. One bequest was 900 acres on Chickahominy Swamp to be divided by sons Joseph and John. This land began at the head of Cabin Island Run, to the mouth of Spring Branch to land that Daniel Price purchased of Thomas and James Cocke. There was another son, Charles Price, who received 400 acres as a deed of gift from his father on 2 May 1771.

There is a will of Robert Price, Bedford Co, in 1816. He had daughter Ann who married Mann Satterwhite, daughter Elizabeth Povall Edgar formerly married Thomas Holt, daughter Elvira married William Thorpe, son Daniel, grandchildren Nancy & William Holmes. v. Hannah PRICE21,22 was born (date unknown).

Nothing is known of Hannah except that her father's will named her as Hannah Harwood and named a granddaughter as Elizabeth Harwood. The Curd family book lists the husband as Thomas Harwood.
