According to Ancestry 24, Daniel was sent by the VOC to Bengal as Onderkoopman in 1752 then to Kassima Bazaar as Kassier in 1763 and finally, as Boekhouer to Hougly.
Details of what MAY be his voyages (given that his son, Gerard, became a Capt in the VOC too) -
but is probably more likely to be the voyages of the Daniel Van Overbeke (13 Mar 1695-29July 1751 m Elizabeth Hals & Gertruida Brengman) who was the Governor of Ceylon in 1742-1743 (whose memoirs of this period have recently been translated and published: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Governors_of_Zeylan; http://www.lankalibrary.com/geo/dutch.htm http://sundaytimes.lk/091122/Plus/plus_17.html; http://books.google.co.za/books/about/Memoir_of_Daniel_Overbeek_Gov...)
between the Netherlands and Asia, via the Cape, as Capt for the VOC:
Assuming it would be unlikely that an experienced ship's capt would be demoted to Onderkoopman after his sea career, the Capt Daniel of these voyages seems more likely to be this Daniel's uncle and, the brother of his father Nicolaas Van Overbeke. Further information is needed to confirm this, tho.
The following 'sightings' :-) may also be the same man who became Gov of Zeylon. Otherwise it is likely to be a relative:
