William Bradford, in 1651, wrote an accounting of the increase in population from the Mayflower passengers. When speaking of Francis Eaton he wrote: "his sone sammuell, who came over a sucking child is allso maried, & hath a child. [1]
Born before 1651, she was the daughter of Samuel Eaton and Elizabeth Unknown.
Samuel Eaton by his first wife Elizabeth had at least two daughters. [2] "Children (EATON) all or most b. Duxbury, 2 by first wife, 4 by second wife:
- i. dau. b. prob. bef. 1651 (Bradford's acct.); m.
- ii dau. b. after March 1651 (Bradford's acct.); m.
- iii SARAH b. bef. 3 Jan. 1663/4*
- iv SAMUEL b. ca. 1664 (aft. 3 Jan. 1663/4)
- v MERCY b. ca. 1665
- vi BETHIAH b. ca. 1668"
From Samuel's estate settlement: "... and the Children of the first wife to have the sume of twenty shillings a peece & such of them as are Dead the sume to be payed amonge theire children." 20s was also the amount given to the two youngest children, daughters of Samuel, so by this they were daughters. There could be more than just two, but the implication is that at least one was living and one deceased.[3]
