---------------------------
David Beam was born on 17 Apr 1777 in Geneva, Switzerland. He died on 4 Jan 1858 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He was buried in David Beam Cemetery, Rutherford County, NC.
9,15 David became a farmer and married Rachel Cain. He lived for many years near his father on Buffalo Creek. Before his death he purchased a farm in Rutherford County.
He was a very pious, a quiet man and highly respected and loved by his neighbors. He was taught and raised in the Lutheran Church, but became a Baptist under the teachings of Rev. Drury Dobbins.
In 1812 David Beam bought land from William Green and built a two-story log house with an attic. In 1890 an addition was built to be used as a post office. The mail was brought by horseback from Mooresboro to Memory Post Office in the Drury Dobbins community. When Whitten Beam died in 1903, the post office was moved. (See Rutherford County Journal 1976. Coordinator - Jeanne Ware, Editor - Frances Spratt).
The original log house was built on a land grant from the King of England to Daniel Shipman, who received the grant of 244 acres in 1772. He sold it to William Green in 1795. William Green then sold the 244 acres to David Beam in 1812.
David Beam built his home in 1813-1814 and moved into it in 1815. When he died, he willed it to his son Monroe Beam. Monroe Beam gave it to his son Joseph Beam. Joseph Beam sold it to W. V. Beam. Mr. W. V. Beam has made a deed of 4 1/2 acres which includes the David Beam house to the trustees of the David Beam Cemetery. David Beam, the second son of John T. Beam was born in Geneva, Switzerland and came with his parents to America when quite young.
