Son of Thomas Bryce Darling of Scotland and Mary Priscilla Amick of Fayette County.

He was a C&O Railway brakeman with the Hinton Division, member of the Methodist Church, and was a veteran of World War I.

He married in 1918 to Elvira Jane Cox and to this union were born 6 children; Rosemary m. Sasby; David Jr.; Mildred Virginia m. Kimberlin; Thomas Clark; Jerry Erskine; and Ted Kennedy.
