About David 'Dave' Eric Wessels
Dave Wessels (1955 – 2020)
Brief overview:
Dave (65), a decorated war veteran, who sold livestock from his smallholding, was found brutally murdered at 06:00 on 25 October 2020, by his neighbour, Ignatz Streicher, who was unable to get in touch with him and had gone to the home.
Ignatz noticed that the burglar guards were broken and that there were blood stains in the room and on the wall, he immediately contacted the police who found Wessels body covered with bed linen in the room. He had been tied with electrical wire and had suffered severe trauma and stab wounds to his body and head.
The house had been ransacked with drawers and cupboards forced open. Ignatz said that after it was initially suspected that the attackers had taken the safe, it was later uncovered that it was a freezer. It appeared that the robbers dragged the freezer to the outside, loaded its contents into Wessels' bakkie and then took the freezer back into the house.
Two suspects aged (52) and (25) were arrested and appeared in Viljoenskroon court. One of the suspects was out on parole for previous crimes.
Dave, a Colonel, received the Honorix Crux gold medal for bravery under fire whilst serving in the bush war, Operation Savannah in Angola, lost his leg in combat in 1975 when the main artery severed.
