About David Oakley

David Oakley was a Tory throughout the War of Rev. a Justice andwas
executor of many wills in Westchester.

Through his marriage, Judge David Oakley acquired part of thelarge
Hunt property in Mile Square and here he lived throughout hislife.
It became the "No Man's Land" during the war and residentswere
outraged by both sides. The History of Yonkers says: "Twoold-time
farm houses remained on Jerome Avenue up to 1900, antique relictsof
the early settlers. One of these at the corner of YonkersAvenue
was owned by the Oakleys during the War of theRevolution.

David Oakley was a Justice for many years, appointed by theKing's
Governor in NYC. He remained a Tory as did many propertyowners.

1756: David Oakley, Assessor, MileSquare
1760: Executor of Pinckney will,Eastchester.
1761: Executor of will of George Tippett, hiscousin.
1769: Witness William Tippett will, hisbrother-in-law.
1771: Exer will of Timothy Hunt,brother-in-law.
1775: David Oakley Senior and Junior, sign with King's Partywith
many others in Westchester. Their vote outweighsrebels.
1778: David Oakley, His Majesty's Justice, gives Oath to Kingto
Gilbert Lownesbury of Mile Square.
1779: Assessor for Yonkers.
1781: Witness to Caleb Oakley's will which begins "In the 21styear
of His Magesty's reign."
1785: He and wife Sarah mortgage land in MileSquare.
1789: Again mortgage property.
1796: His will probated. Bulk of his land goes to son DavidJr.
Other children mentioned. Oldest son Moses is executor.
