Biography

John was the son of John & Gillian Vaughan. His birth date of April 19, 1644 was recorded (after 1658) by Rhode Island Friends (Quakers): [1]

At a meeting of the Rhode Island and Providence Plantations General Assembly on October 29, 1668, "John Vahan, Jun'r" was named as wanting to become one of the freemen of Warwick.[2]

In April of 1673, John's father deeded the eight acre homestead "in consideration of the lovinge tender and fatherly respect I have and beare unto my loving son John Vahan..." About two years later John Jr. married Mary Mott, daughter of Adam & Mary (Lott) Mott with whom he had a least one son, John III, before she died at age 22.[3]

On August 22, 1692, John was admitted a freeman of the town of Portsmouth.[4]

John executed a will on September 6, 1705 which was proved February 5 1710/11. He bequeathed land to grandsons John and Daniel which his son and executor John III would maintain while they were minors.[3]

Research Notes

John b circa 1675 married Mary Millard; descendants are of Lebanon, CT
Per the source used in this profile, there are land transactions which prove Mary Mott was married to John, not David, Vaughan.
