David D. Whitener, the youngest of ten children of Daniel Whitener and Mary Wilfong, married Sarah Stilwell Dec. 24, 1829 in Lincoln Co., NC. David's father, Daniel Whitener, died in 1833 and David was willed land, a negro boy, and a mare named Jim. The land was part of an original land Patent granted to David's grandfather, Henry Weidner.

David and Sarah had eleven children: Caroline, Albert, Tabitha, John, Hamby, Wesley, Churchill, David E., Sarah A., Jane, and Melvaline. The last two children were born in Georgia; all the others were born in North Carolina.

In May 1840 David sold 126 acres of land to John Ward for $563. A few years after that David and his family moved to Georgia and were living in Murray Co. in 1850. After the move to Georgia, David sold the rest of his land in Catawba Co. In 1850 he sold 210 acres to David Seitz, his brother-in-law, for $2,140 and another 245 acres to Jesse Hawn for $525.

In the Oct 1863 Whitfield Co., GA Court of Ordinary the petition of Hyman T. Richardson proved that David Whitener, a resident of said County up to the time of his death, departed this life intestate on the 22nd of Sept 1863, leaving a considerable estate with the probable sum of $4,000. Mr. Richardson stated that Sarah, the widow of said deceased, had selected him as Administrator of her husband's estate. Later in May 1867 Sarah requested Letters of Administration be changed from H. T. Richardson to herself. Her petition was granted May 15, 1867, when she swore to distribute the estate fairly.

David was probably buried on his own land. After David's death, Sarah and several of her children moved to Texas. One son, Wesley Henry Whitener, moved to the state of Washington.
