He fought in Kind Philip's War. His tomb stone, in god state of preservation, still stands in the W Roxbury Cemetary. He was one of the "goers" at the time that "New Roxbury" (afterwards Woodstock) was founded, but although he received a grant of land the (Lot 24) in the apportionment in 1686, he did not go there to live. He died intestate and administration of his estate as granted, Sept 10, 1714, to his wife Deborah Lyon of Roxbury and Samuel Lyon of Newtown, presumably his son. (Suffolk Co. Probate Records, XVIII, 351). Inventory, Nov 5, 1714; amount L471-6-6.

Administrator's account, presented March 9, 1715 shows payments to David Lyon and Jacob Lyon, and money due the estate from Eliphalet Lyon (son of Thomas); signed Samll Lyon. Settlement of estate of WIlliam Lyon by His Excellency, Governor J Dudley, Oct 3, 1715, mentions "Samuel Lyon the second son, his elder Brother William being non compos mentis and so incapable of accepting and improving said estate.' All real state was given to son Samuel saving onto widow Deborah Lyon her right of dower, he to pay his brother William Lyon his double share, being L67-5 -1/2., and to each of the rest of his brother and sisters, viz Hannah Tucker, Mehitable David and Jacob Lyon (or their respective guardians) the sum of L3-1-6-1/4, and further son on death of their mother Deborah Lyon.
