Descendant of Mayflower passenger George Soule

Benjamin West, son of William West and his second wife Jane Tanner, was born about 1730, probably in North Kingstown or Newport, Rhode Island.[1] His Great-grandfather George Soule arrived on the Mayflower.

He married in Bristol Rhode Island 7 June 1753, Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Drown) Smith.[1]

Benjamin died in New York in 1782, probably in Roxborough (now Grafton), Rensselaer. His estate was proved in Farmington in 1782.[1]

Benjamin West was "of" Stonington 11 Feb 1754. Then Benjamin West of Hopkinton, Rhode Island, cordwainer, bought 6 acres in Hopkinton, 1 Dec 1760 and another 2 acres 5 Dec 1760. 25 July 1766, Benjamin, now of Newport, Rhode Island, and his wife Elizabeth sold six acres in Westerly, Rhode Island.[1]

Benjamin was a member and a Deacon of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hopkinton.[1]

The family moved to the area of Burlington-Farmington, Connecticut before the Revolution. He and sons Benjamin jr and Hezekiah, sighed the Farmington Petition to the Connecticut legislature asking permission to labor on the first day, since they celebrated the Sabbath on the seventh day.[1]
