Joseph West

William West, the oldest son of John West and Sarah Pearson, was born in 1724 in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania, and died Dec. 6, 1808, at the age of 84. He was a cooper and followed his trade in Philadelphia, where he married his first wife, Sarah -, who died about 1765. It is said that they were the parents of Joan, James, William and Rebecca West.

He married 2nd, Hannah Shaw in 1767 at Upper Darby, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and moved to a farm. In one of the reference books, the children of this marriage are named as Sarah, Samuel, Rebecca, and William. We shall follow, however, the list given on p. 102, of Keith’s Councillors of Pennsylvania:
