About Deacon John Wadsworth

John Wadsworth, son of Christopher Wadsworth and Grace Cole, was the husband of Abigail Andrews (1647-1723).

Their children included Lydia Wadsworth Peterson (1679-1756) and Hopestill Wadsworth Brewster (1686-1773).

The poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was a descendant.

The following is quoted from the Duxbury, MA vital records: Deacon John Wadsworth - Deceased May the 15th Anno dom. 1700, very early in ye morning before ye dawning of ye day being about Sixty-two yeares of age."

According to an article published in "The Mayflower descendant", by George Earnest Bowman, all of the daughters are mentioned in the inventory of the estate of Abigail Andrews Wadsworth. The title of the article is "Aaron Soule's wife Mary Wadsworth and the Marriages of Five of Her Sisters" and details the probate records for Deacon John and his wife Abigail, as well as additional links between the sisters.

The names listed, by drawing lots, in Abigail's inventory of her estate are as follows: Mary Soul, Abigail Tomson, Sarah Wadsworth, Hannah Peterson, Lydia Peterson, Grace Sprague, Hopestill Brewster and Mercy Wadsworth[7]
