He was a Private in Capt.Jonathan Crowell's Compnay, marching at the Lexington Alarm Apr 19, 1775. He was also on the roll of Capt. Joshua Gray's Company twice later in 1775.

He married Desire Sears on on Dec 17, 1778 at Yarmouth,MA. She was born on Aug 24,1760 at Dennis,MA, a daughter of Capt. Nathaniel Sears and Phebe (Lincoln) Sears. She died at Springfield,MA on Sep 6,1844.

Children: Phebe Bangs Shattuck(wife of Oliver Shattuck Jr), Rebecca Bangs, Joseph Bangs Jr, Desire Bangs, Sarah Bangs, Mary "Polly" Bangs, Jonathan Bangs, Sabra Bangs, Olive Bangs, Washington Bangs, and Freeman Sears Bangs.
