Delbert Dale Breuer

The Burlington Hawkeye – March 29, 2001 Delbert Breuer Delbert Dale "Tiny" Breuer, 84, of Mediapolis, died Tuesday afternoon, March 27, 2001, at Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun. Born Sept. 4, 1916, near Mediapolis, he was the son of William and Grace Hutchcroft Breuer. He married Helen Meretha Hamilton on Dec. 9, 1939, in Morning Sun. She died March 30, 1999. Mr. Breuer was a 1939 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He lived and farmed near Mediapolis with his wife for more than 59 years. He was a 71-year member of First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis, served on the Mediapolis School Board, was past director of Des Moines County Farm Service Co. and served on the Kossuth Cemetery Board for a number of years. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed playing ball in his younger days. He liked to bowl and play croquet with friends and family. Mr. Breuer was a racing fan and followed his son and grandson's stock car racing closely for many years. Later, he supported Mediapolis athletics, attending many of his grandchildren's school sporting events. He was a good-natured man who loved to joke, agitate and tease. He loved his family, farming and all kinds of animals, especially dogs. Survivors include two sons, William Breuer of Mooresville, N.C., and Robert Breuer of Mediapolis; one daughter, Janice Cummings of Mediapolis; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and three grandsons. Visitation will begin at noon today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Breuer will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. Memorials have been established for his church and Kossuth Cemetery.
