Delores M. Balfe Weed (DW)

1925-2012

Delores M. Balfe Weed (DW) passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the age of 86. Delores was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Kilkenny, Minn., to Michael and Hattie (Born) Balfe. A 1943 graduate of Montgomery High School, she married Willis "Bill" Weed on Oct. 25, 1947. They later divorced. Delores was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church where she worked for 30 years and retired. Her service to St. Dominic was recognized on July 29, 1997, when Pope John Paul II awarded her the Medal of the Majestic Cross.

A kind, giving soul, DW enjoyed all things Irish, playing cards and family. Survivors include her daughter, Becky (Francis) Minnick, of Faribault; her sons, Steven (Kathy), of Northfield; Daniel (Robyn), of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and James (Darci), of Rochester. Six grandchildren, Stacey Minnick, Jon Minnick, Amy McKeever, Ryan Weed, Darin Weed and Brooke Weed; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Darlene Barber and her brother, Gordon Balfe. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jana Minnick; her parents; her sister, Anna Marie King and her brothers, Billy and Dewey Balfe.

Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral. Visitation was also held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 4-7 p.m. at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
