Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose for Delphine S. Gieske, 79, of Melrose, who died April 25, 2014. Inurnment will be in the Parish Cemetery. The Reverend Marvin Enneking will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday at the church in Melrose.

Delphine was born on October 6, 1934 in Richmond, to John and Frances (Kron) Schreifels. She married Robert Gieske on July 9, 1955 in Melrose, MN.

Delphine is survived by: children, Russell (Judy), Scott (Wendy), Dean (Linda), Lucinda (Robert) LeClair, Sandra (Robert) Partyka; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Ellen Primus, Esther Steinemann, Alice Manning, Iris Hiltner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; brothers, Victor, Marcellus, Cyril, Howard; sisters, Celeste Denne, and Julie Schreifels.

Del was part of St Francis Missionary Group and St Cecilia Missionary Group. She kept her days busy by volunteering for meals on wheels, senior center quilting projects, and keeping the casinos in business. Her greatest joy was to be the cheering section for all her grandchildren’s sporting events and achievements. She was so proud of her children and encouraged them through to the end by showing her strength and stamina through till she was able to go to the Glory of the Pearl Gates.
