Demcey was taxable in his own household in Bertie Co, NC in the 1756 constable's list of Edward Williams, and was an insolvent taxpayer in 1757. He was again taxable in Norfolk Co., VA from 1782-1788, and from 1807-1811, taxable on his son Thomas in 1786. Demcey was head of a Hertford Co., NC household of 4 "other free" in 1790, 3 "other free" and a white woman in 1800, 6 "other free" in 1810, and 9 "free colored" in 1820.
