Dennis Donahue of Charlestown, who had been taken suddenly ill with appendicitis Tuesday and removed to the City Hospital where he underwent an operation, died Thursday morning, peritonitis having developed. Mr. Donahue was born in Ireland 58 years ago and came to America when a young man and settled in Lawrence, where he lived several years. He then came to Charlestown, where he lived many years, during which time he worked as a machinist for the Boston and Maine railroad. He then went to Keene, N.H. continuing his employment in a machine shop of the Boston and Maine railroad, but subsequently returned to Charlestown where he has since resided. For over ten years he had been employed as a boilermaker in the Charlestown Navy Yard.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia (Buckley) Donahue of 2 Washington pl., Charlestown, three sons, “Jack” Donahue and Joe Donahue both in vaudeville and Walter Donahue, and two daughters Mrs. Timothy S. Buckley and Miss Alice Donahue of Charlestown.

The funeral will be held tomorrow with services at Mr. Donahue’s home at 2 o’clock. At 7:30 a.m. Monday, a requiem high mass will be sung.

Funeral Service For Dennis Donahue. For 30 Years A Resident Of Charlestown.

The funeral of Dennis Donahue, one of Charlestown’s best-known citizens for more than 30 years and father of Jack and Joe Donahue both of whom are prominent in the theatrical profession was held yesterday afternoon in his home, 2 Washington pl., Charlestown. Services were conducted at 2 o’clock by Rev. M.J. Murphy. They were largely attended.

The pallbearers were Cornelius Crowley, Timothy Corcoran, John Donovan, Patrick, Timothy and Jeremiah Buckley. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. At 7:30 next Monday morning a mass will be sung. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia (Buckley) Donahue, three sons, John, Joseph and Walter Donahue and two daughters, Mrs. Timothy S. Buckley and Miss Alice Donahue of Charlestown and one grandchild, Alice M. Donahue.

Mr. Donahue was employed for 25 years in the Charlestown Navy Yard, prior to which he worked as a machinist for the Boston and Maine railroad in this city and Keene, N.H. He formerly resided in Lawrence.

Note; His wife's brother Dennis Buckley also worked in Keene, N.H. and died there in 1908. Also his wife's sister Mary Donahue's 1935 obit mentions her having ties to Lawrence, Mass.
