Brief overview:
Deon (82), caretaker for La Paradise Residential Complex, Garfield, who lived alone, was stabbed to death on 8th October 2013. He was found with multiple stab wounds to his neck, hidden under a mattress in his bedroom.
According to Garsfontein police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dave Muller, the police reacted to a tip-off from the community. “It was a very sensitive case because Bezuidenhout was an elderly man who was loved and respected by his fellow community members. Tensions were running high. Due to great investigative work, we managed to identify the suspect and arrest him before he could flee.”
His bakkie (pick-up truck) was stolen, but later recovered in Mamelodi East.
The suspect is to remain in police custody pending his court appearance.
