Desay van Wyk (1995 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Desay (14), and his mother Martha van Wyk, wife of farm worker, Jacob Nokgedi (46), from one of the houses on Smallholding 2 in Saaiman Road, outside Bloemfontein, were murdered during a massacre in the area. Both of their throats had been slit.

Four drunken Tswana-speaking men had knocked on Jacob's door, when he opened it, they demanded money and began stabbing him. He tried to assist his wife and son, but the perpetrators also attempted to slit his throat. Jacob survived.

The four perpetrators then attacked the couple's neighbour Lydia Modise.

60-year-old Moses Nthloka, was also attacked and suffered severe injuries. He never regained consciousness, and died at Pelonomi Hospital the following day. "The berserkers had carved the letters ‘ANC’ on his back said captain Chaka Marope."
