About Martha van Wyk
Martha van Wyk (d.o.b. unknown - 2009)
Brief overview:
Martha, wife of farm worker, Jacob Nokgedi (46), from one of the houses on Smallholding 2 in Saaiman Road, outside Bloemfontein, was murdered during a massacre in the area. The couple's son, Desay van Wyk (14), was also murdered. Both of their throats had been slit.
Four drunken Tswana-speaking men had knocked on Jacob's door, when he opened it, they demanded money and began stabbing him. He tried to assist his wife and son, but the perpetrators also attempted to slit his throat. Jacob survived.
The four perpetrators then attacked the couple's neighbour Lydia Modise.
60-year-old Moses Nthloka, was also attacked and suffered severe injuries. He never regained consciousness, and died at Pelonomi Hospital the following day. "The berserkers had carved the letters ‘ANC’ on his back said captain Chaka Marope."

- Jacob Gatrey (25), Daniël Mahloko (27), Itemeleng Maruma (22), and Amos Nkaba (32), were arrested, and were held in Grootvlei prison, scheduled to appear in Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on 28th January 2010.
