933. DEXTER7 BALDWIN (DAVID6, NATHAN WHEELER5, NATHAN4, EPHRAIM3, JOSEPH2, JOHN1) was born November 14, 1824 in Summit, Schoharie County, New York, and died March 21, 1893 in Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York. He married RACHEL HOLLENBECK November 24, 1849, daughter of JACOB HOLLENBECK and JANE OSTERHAUT. She was born March 13, 1828, and died October 30, 1893 in Stillwater, Saratoga County, New York.
Notes for DEXTER BALDWIN:
He spent his early years at Summit on the farm, attending local schools. When he was 12 years old, his family moved near Clarksville, New Scotland, Albany County, New York. Dexter left the farm early in life and became a clerk in the drug house of Boyd & Paul of New York City, where he remained 12 years. He then went to Albany County, where he purchased a farm where he resided till 1867. Land records show that Dexter bought 60 acres from his father in 1849, located in New Scotland, and in 1854, he bought an additional 50 acres adjacent thereto from a Mr. Foster, it seems he returned to the farm in Albany county in 1854, and that he had left New Scotland to go to work for Boyd & Paul in 1842 when he was eighteen years old. The U. S. Census of 1850 shows that Dexter and his wife, Rachel, were resident in New Scotland, Albany County at that time, It is believed from family tradition, that Dexter, in 1842, joined his brother, Reuben, in Albany and worked for Boyd & Paul there until he was married in 1849, and then he went to New York City, where his first child was born. The drug firm had establishments in both places. Land Records show that he sold his farm in New Scotland, Albany Co., under a deed dated February, 1866, and moved to the farm near Stillwater, in Saratoga County, N. Y., which he purchased from his brother Reuben. Rachel and Dexter lived on this farm the rest of their lives. They both are buried in Stillwater Union Cemetery, a short distance from their farm.
