Referred to as "Uncle Dicky"Richard HANKS II was born 1762 in Amelia Co., VA and married Phebe Hayes October 17, 1785 in Lincoln Co., NC. Phebe Hayes was born on Hovember 8, 1768. Richard's 2nd marriage was to Levian Young on March 1, 1821.
Samuel Ewing signed the papers. The Ewings were near neighbors; as were the Berrys. Richard Berry m. Polly Ewing. After Richard's death, his widow wrote, "Eve E" Hanks filed a claim, July 1853.” Richard died before July 22, 1853 in Lincoln Co., NC.

A Revolutionary War Soldier, he began military service in 1778 in Guilford Co., NC. “Volunteered for Rev. War service at the age of 16, from Guilford Co. N.C. Was sent to suppress Tories; was in the Battle of Guilford C.H., under Capt. Lopp. (Lopp was later a Col. in 1789 he sold land to Felix Hanks). In 1832 Richard applied for a pension and stated he had resided in Lincoln Co. N.C. for 40 years.” He lived between 1792 and 1832 in Lincoln Co., NC.
