Copp's Hill Buring Ground was first founded in 1659 as Windmill Hill. Thousands of artisans, craftspeople, and merchants are buried on the Hill.

• iv. Dorothy Capen, b. circa 1603-1604, d. Sept. 18, 1675 at Boston, Mass., Æ 73; m. Jan. 17, 1629/30 at Dorchester, England, Nicholas Upshall {q.v. Upsall} b. circa 1597. He d. Aug. 20, 1666, Æ 70, while confined (in lieu of prison) by the Mass. Court to the Dorchester residence of his brother-in-law, Capt. John Capen. Considerable turmoil was involved with this family due to Nicholas' favorable views toward Quakers in early New England. Dorothy and husband Nicholas Upshall had five known children; two died in their youth while a third child probably died young.

Dorothy Capen, dau. of Bernard Capen and Joan Purchase, was b. presumably at Dorchester in Dorset, England and d. testate at Boston, Mass. on Sept. 18, 1675, Æ 73. Her gravestone inscription indicates she was b. on or after Sept. 18, 1603.

On Jan. 17, 1629/30 at Holy Trinity Church at Dorchester in Dorset, England, Dorothy m. Nicholas Upshall (q.v., Upsall). An extended bio will be added later, but in the meantime:

The children of Dorothy Capen and Nicholas Upshall {q.v., Upsall}, the first four b. of record at Dorchester, Mass., are:

• i. Anna Upshall, b. in Feb. 1635/6; d. Nov. 7, 1651 in her youth at Boston, Mass., Æ 16.

• ii. Elizabeth Upshall, b. in Feb. 1637/8; m. 1) July 4, 1652 at Boston, Mass. when only 14 years of age, William Greenough (by William Hibbins). He d. on or after July 24, 1678, the date of his will. There were ten children by the marriage. Elizabeth m. 2) bef. May 22, 1686 as his 2nd wife, Capt. Timothy Prout, Sr. of Boston, who d. Nov. 3, 1702. There were no children of this second marriage. [William Greenough's namesake nephew, Capt. William Greenough, m. Elizabeth's 1st cousin, Ruth Swift, at Boston in 1660. The latter William Greenough d. at Boston on Aug 6, 1693 and is interred at Boston's Copps Hill burying ground.]

• iii. Susanna Upshall, b. Feb. 7, 1639/40 (bapt. Feb. 16); m. Nov. 18, 1659 at Boston, Mass., Joseph Cocke (by Mr. Thos. Danforth). Seven known children of the family.

• iv. Experience Upshall, a son, b. Mar. 19, 1640/1 (bapt. Mar. 21); d. in his youth Aug. 2, 1659 at Boston, Mass., Æ 19.

• v. Ruth Upshall, bapt. Oct. 15, 1642 at Dorchester with the notation in the church record "to Boston"; no further record. She is not included in her father's will of Aug. 9, 1666 or her mother's will of Aug. 30, 1673.
