About Dr. Ashley Robin Bloomfield
New Zealand’s Director-General of health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, has been widely lauded for his cool, calm leadership during the Covid-19 Coronavirus crisis. Around 1,400 people were infected with the virus in New Zealand, and 19 died. Bloomfield won many fans throughout the Level 4 month-long lockdown period for his fact-heavy, no-nonsense approach to the crisis. Prime minister Jacinda Ardern publicly thanked him for his efforts, saying he had offered clear guidance and reassurance for Kiwis at their time of greatest need. Bloomfield, now 54, was one of three children born to Allan and Myreine Bloomfield. He has an older brother who is a law lecturer and a sister who is a nurse.
