Brief overview:

Carel (60), a cattle farmer from Tweelingspruit farm in the Biesiesvlei area in North-West, had not been heard from for a few days. Farmers from surrounding farms suspected trouble when his cattle walked into the road on the morning of Wednesday 2nd August 2023. One of the farmers went to investigate and came across the murder scene. "More farmers were called, followed by the police who took over the scene," said Afriforum's Ian Cameron.

According to Capt. Sam Tselanyane, police spokesperson, the police in Biesiesvlei were called to the farm around 12:00. "When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 60-year-old farmer on the bedroom floor," confirms Tselanyane. "The body was already in the early stages of decomposition."

There were several gunshot marks on the walls and the doors of the house. The house had also been ransacked.

It is still unclear at this stage what was stolen. Valuable items such as television sets, microwave ovens and radios were not taken, and Carel's vehicles were not stolen, and the dogs were unharmed.

It is also not clear when the incident took place. "Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident may have taken place a few days ago." Cameron says it is possible that the murder already took place on Friday, but this has yet to be confirmed.

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.
