About Dr. Charles Carroll

Dr. Charles Carroll, III

Dr. Carroll was a son of Charles Carroll, Sr. and Clare Dunn. He emigrated from Ireland in 1715, for political reasons and settled in Annapolis. He was a surgeon, a merchant and a land speculator. He was one of the five founding partners of the Baltimore Ironworks Company.

He married Dorothy Blake, and they had three children: Dr. Charles III, Mary Clare, and John Henry. After Dorothy died in 1734, Charles married Anne Plater.

Charles' will was witnessed on October 4, 1755, "in the presence and at the request of the same Testator,", so he died sometime after that date. (The last revision was to write his nephew in an heir).
