Horatio qualifes from St Andrew's University (Fife, Scotland) in 1858.
Various medical and other directories show him as being a surgeon in Wangford in 1859, 1865, 1867 and 1869.
1868 Registered on the electoral roll for Wangford.

1860 - extract from The Southwold Diary of James Maggs 1818-1876 Volume II gives details at an inquest into the suicide of the Rev. William French, incumbent of Wangford and Vicar of Reydon, aged 51, in which Horatio is mentioned as the man's doctor. (See attached.)

Horatio Girdlestone (1819-1894) MD Born in Hethersett, Norfolk at the end of 1819 and Christened on 9 Feb 1820, was the son of Henry Girdlestone (1785-1871) and Elizabeth Anne Bolton (1790-1861). He married Ellen Catherine Bolton (c.1817-1891) on 12 Dec 1844 in Norfolk. They had five sons and three daughters.
