Dr. John Danforth Greenwood was a physician born on January 04 1803 in London. He married Sarah Field in 1831 and retired from practicing medicine due to ill health in abt 1838. The family lived briefly in Paris before returning to London and raising money to buy land in the Wellington, Nelson, and Motueka regions of New Zealand. Dr John Danforth Greenwood secured a position as Surgeon Superintendent on the ship Phoebe ensuring free passage for his wife and eight children. The family departed Gravesend on the 16th of November 1842, arriving in Nelson, New Zealand on the 29th of March 1843 with nine children as their son Alfred was born en route.
