Re: Ellen Heath daughter of John Henry Heath (son of JH Heath 1820 Settler)
Sunelia Heath 2/12/2016
Thanks to some clever people's input and advise, I think there is a very strong probability that Ellen Thompson and John Henry Heath never married and had one daughter, Ellen, out of wedlock. Ellen BACKHOUSE, nee HEATH, passed away on 8 Jul 1928. On her DN her age is given as 87 years and 6 months. Taken very literally, that puts her birth date as 8 Jan 1841. Her parents are given as Ellen THOMPSON & John Henry HEATH.
I found this baptism inscription for an Ellen THOMPSON which gives her birth date as 7 Jan 1841, only the mother is mentioned "the late Ellen THOMPSON", and abode is given as Mancazana. Following that, John Henry HEATH and Caroline OOSTUUS got married on 23 Aug 1841. John Henry is given as "Batchelor" and both John and Caroline's residence is given as Mancazana river.
