John Walton Sr. was a "botanical" doctor, i.e., one who compounds his own prescriptions from plants containing medicinal properties. He was the first of four generations of physicians in this line. Harris, M.D.- "John Walton and his wife Mary, daughter of George Sims, settled in Louisa Co. on land which George Sims, John Sims, Edward Sims, and Mathew Sims had patented. John Walton was a physician. They had a large family of children some of whom stayed in Louisa Co." Note: A copy of John's will was found by a descendent and re-recorded in Hanover Co., Virginia.   • ***Will of John Walton of Hanover Co., dated 27 September 1772 and proved in Hanover Court, 5 Nov 1772: I do lend my loving wife Mary Walton the plantation where I live and the plantation called the New Design adjoining with all houses, etc. If my wife should marry again she is to have one third part lent her and the thirds of the land to be laid off on the East side of the plantation, and after her decease all the Estate lent her be equally divided amongst all my children: George, John, Simeon, Edward, Mary, Jessee, Elizabeth, Robert, Frances, William, Mizapina, and Newel Walton. Item. I gave and delivered to son George Walton, land in Amelia Co. containing 200 acres and two Negroes named Peter and a girl named Lett. To son John, land in Louisa Co. where he lives and five Negroes... and L30 to be raised out of my estate to make his land equal to the others. To son Jessee, land in Amelia Co. where he lives... To son Simeon, land in Amelia Co. I bought of his brother George joining his former tract... also to son Simeon two Negroes, George and Amy. To son Edward, land I bought of John Tisdale called Hollowdays and land I bought of Wainston [Winston] adjoining, and Negro girl... and as much money as he paid John Hawkins for a Negro I took in bond. To son Robert, land on branches of Henson's Creek in Louisa Co... To son William, [after my wife's decease] all land and plantation where I now live and lent to his mother.... To son Newell, land I bought of Presshood and England on North River and profits and rents until he arrives to age of 21 years... To daughter Mary Baker, four Negroes... To daughter Elizabeth Wadkins, four Negroes... To daughter Frances Walton, five Negroes... To daughter Mizapina Walton, five Negroes... If any of children die before they marry or reach 21, their part of the estate divided among survivors. Son John Walton, Isham Wadkins, William Baker to be executors.
