Joseph Jacobs of Scituate, yeoman died intestate and on 16 March 1781, Nathaniel Jacobs of Hanover, and Joseph Jacobs of Scituate were granted the administration of his estate.[4]
His inventory was taken on 30 March 1781 in Scituate. He was a slaveholder, his inventory included two enslaved black women who are not named.[5]
In 1782, his widow Mary received her dower. An account of his estate by Nathaniel and Joseph Jacobs was recorded which included debts received, debts paid, necessaries to the widow, provisions for the family, a cow tht drowned, and administration fees.[6]
In 1782, his estate was set out to his children, Elisha Jacobs, decd., Relief, wife of David Jacobs, Hannah James, widow of John James, Sarah Foster, wife of John Foster, Lydia Whitten, wife of Amasa Whitten, Deborah Jacobs, Nathaniel Jacobs, Mary Jacobs, Abigail Sylvester, wife of Caleb Sylvester Jr., and Joseph Jacobs.[7]
In 1794, an account of his estate by Nathaniel and Joseph Jacobs was recorded which included the sale of real estate, debts paid, surveyors, and administration fees.[8]
In 1794, after the deceased of the widow, her dower was divided into 11 shares and set out to the heirs of Elisha Jacobs, Hannah James, Lydia Whiting, wife of Amasa Whiting, Joseph Jacobs, Mary Jacobs, Deborah Jacobs, the heirs of Sarah Foster, late wife of John Foster, Nathaniel Jacobs, Relief Jacobs, wife of David Jacobs, and Abigail Sylvester, wife of Caleb Sylvester.[9]
