Joseph was the son of of Dr. Joseph and Mary Avery Minor.

His marker says he was 71 when he died. His death date says Feb. 8 and then it can be read as either 1739 or 59 with a /0 after it. His foot marker is clearly marked 1759. This would put his year of birth in 1688.
