Mercy West (Minor)

Biography

Mercie, b. Aug. 21, 1673; bap. April 18, 1675; m. Dec. 20, 1696, at Preston, Francis West; they moved to Tolland, Conn., where he was a large land owner, first deacon of the church and selectman,1720, 1722. They both died at Tolland.

Francis West (No. 6) is found at Preston, Conn., in the year 1696, where his marriage is recorded thus:

"This may sartyfy all persons whome it may consern that franses west and marcy minor were Lawfully joyned in marage the 20 of December, 1696, by me, Samuel mason Assist"

• Nathaniel W. was descended from Francis West of Salisbury, Eng., who was invited to America by a Mr. Thomas of Marshfield, and m. Margery Reeves. They settled in Duxbury, and had 5 children, viz : Samuel, Thomas, Peter, Mary, and Ruth. Mr. W. died about 1694, aged 86. Samuel m. Tryphosa Partridge, and had 7 children, — 'Francis, (to be again mentioned ;)' Samuel, a poet, b. in 1673, and who lived to be over 90 ; Pelatiah, Ebenezer, John, Abigail, and Bathsheba. 'Francis m. Mercy Mina, and was one of the early settlers of Tolland, and the first deacon of that church, died. May 12, 1731, aged 62. His children were' Samuel, m. Nov. 4, 1724, to Sarah Delano, and Nov. 26, 1754, to Abigail Lathrop, died Feb. 3, 1779 ; Joseph, m. May 19, 1725, died Jan. 27, 1764, aged 62 ; Amasa, m. A. Hatch in 1730 ; Zebulon, of whom we must again speak ; Christopher, who m. Amy Delano, Oct. 25, 1732, and was one of the early settlers of Lee, Mass ; Pelatiah, ditto ; and Mercy. Mr. W. removed to T. in 1720, from Stonington.

Mercy Minor, dau. of Dr. Joseph Minor & Maria Avery, was b. of record on Aug. 21, 1673 at Stonington, Conn. and d. at Tolland, Conn. on Sept. 6, 1751, Æ 79.

On Dec. 20, 1696 at Preston, Conn. (by Samuel Mason, Assistant), Mercy m. Francis West, s. of Samuel West & Tryphosa Partridge. He was b. at Duxbury, Mass. on Dec. 13, 1669 and d. at Tolland, Conn. on May 12, 1731, Æ 62.

Mercy and Francis had seven known children who are outlined in their father's memorial.
