About Dr. Miklos Rafael

Dr. MIklos Rafael was deported together with his wife and two children from the village of Bonțida to the Cluj Ghetto. From there they were carted to Budapest where he became the Budapest Columbus st. Ghetto Camp physician.
His wife Rosa Rozalia Goldberger Rafael was employed in cleaning the residence of some SS officials.
In december of 1944 as the Soviets were nearing, Jews were forced to move to a closed Ghetto in Budapest while the Cross Arrow bands were butchering as many Jews as they could.
He was also killed by the Nyilas on Dec 3rd/4th according to survivor's testimonies. See excerpt from Randolph's Braham book quoted below.

His 17 years old son, Ervin Rafael , was thrown into the Danube and killed around the same day.

His daughter Zoe Klein had already managed to escape the Ghetto in the summer of 1944. She married her boyfriend Dr. Laci Ladislau Zvi Klein from Cluj in the Budapest Ghetto after he managed to escape from forced labor camp. Both newlyweds boarded Kastner's train upon its departure from Budapest. They were kept in Bergen Belsen for several months with the other train passengers until most of them were allowed to board a train that eventually crossed into Switzerland.

His wife Rosa Rozalia Goldberger Rafael survived in the Budapest Ghetto and returned to Transylvania after the war as did her daughter and son un law. They all eventually immigrated to Israel.

Relevant fragment from Randolph's Braham's "The politics of genocide: the Holocaust in Hungary" / "A népirtás politikája : a holocaust Magyarországon" :

December 3-án például megtámadták a Columbus utcai különleges tábort (Son-derlager), ahol nagyszámú zsidó várt „emigrálásra". A tábor a Nemzetközi Vöröskereszt fennhatósága alatt állt, a nyilasok ennek ellenére behatoltak, és több zsidót megöltek, köztük a tábor orvosát, dr. Rafaelt, és Moskovits táborparancsnokot és családtagjait.96

Machine translation:
On December 3, for example, the special camp (Sonderlager) on Columbus Street was attacked, where a large number of Jews waiting for "emigration". The camp was under the authority of the International Red Cross, but the shooters nevertheless penetrated and killed several Jews, including the camp doctor, Dr. Rafael, and the camp commander Moskovits and his family members. 96

96. A Pesti Izraelita Hitközség Siketnéma Intézetében lévő Sonderlager (különleges tábor) tranzittáborként szolgált az év folyamán korábban megkötött Kasztner-Eichmann-egyezmény értelmében emigrálásra váró zsidók számára.

96. The Sonderlager (special camp) in the Deaf and Mute Institute of the Pest Israelite Community served as a transit camp for Jews awaiting emigration in accordance with the Kasztner-Eichmann agreement concluded earlier in the year. Before Eichmann's departure during the Lakatos era, the camp was under the protection of the SS. Because of its reputation as a refuge, many Jews sought protection here after the Szálasi coup; at one time it housed 3,600 Jews, including hundreds of runaway conscripts. For more on the Eichmann-Kasztner agreement and the camp, see chapter 29.

That is the Shoah interview of Istvan Stephen Beck in which he mentions Nicholas / Miklos Rafael as a cousin!
