Dr. Thomas Chisholm, here treated, who was a surgeon in Selkirk, is the grandson of Robert Chisholme, Sheriff-Clerk of Selkirkshire. The name of his father and mother is not presently known. History of the Chisholms, pp. 188-9
Claimed Paternity
Without justification it has been claimed that Thomas Chisholme, here treated, is that son of Thomas Chisholm, weaver burgess of Selkirk, and his wife Janet Turnbull, whose baptism was registered at Selkirk on 27 August 1704, but there is nothing in this child's baptismal which connects him with the surgeon who married Agnes Bannatyne at Selkirk in 1734. Neither is there anything in the marriage record of Thomas Chisholme and Agnes Bannatyne which connects the surgeon with the child who was born in 1704. MyHeritage
