William Judson /9 Lamson (John S. /8, Samuel /7, Samuel /6, Paul /5, Thomas /4, Thomas /3, John /2, William /1), was born at Orange, N. J., May 14, 1871.

William Judson Lamson was educated at the public school of Montclair, N. J., and then entered Yale University and was graduated in the Class of 1893. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He then entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, New York City, and received the degree of M. D. in 1896. He was one of the winners of the "Harsen Prize."

After his graduation he went abroad for a year and continued his medical studies in Berlin and Vienna. He returned to New York in 1897 and entered the Medical Staff of St. Luke's Hospital, to which he had received an appointment by competitive examination. He served as medical intern for two years, graduating as House Physician in 1899. He then took a three months' service on the Plouse Staff of the Sloane Maternity Hospital, New York.

He began the practice of his profession in 1900, at 50 East 31st St., New York, going to West Hampton Beach, Long Island, in the summer.

In 1901, he removed to Summit, N. J., where he has since resided, at 120 Summit Ave., and continued his profession. He is unmarried.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Union County (New Jersey) Medical Society, and has been the Secretary of the Summit Medical Society since its foundation in 1905. He is also a member of the St. Luke's Hospital (New York) Alumni Association. He has contributed several articles to the medical journals, and is Medical Inspector of Schools of Summit, N. J.

He is also a member of the Canoe Brook Country Club, and of the Highland Club of Summit, of which he was formerly Vice- President.

When William Judson Lamson was born on May 14, 1871, in Orange, New Jersey, his father, John, was 38 and his mother, Mary, was 33. He had three brothers and two sisters. He died on November 28, 1931, in Summit, New Jersey, at the age of 60

PREFACE

This book represents the genealogical gleanings of thirty years. The first steps were made by Edwin Lamson ( Edwin Ruthven Lamson ), of Summit, N. J., in 1888, and the collection of further data was later taken up by the author and compiler, who has worked at it ever since with varying degrees of genealogical enthusiasm and intensity. The demands of a busy professional life have retarded the work to a large extent. Much help has been given to him by Miss Flora M. Lamson, of Cottage City, Mass., who died in 1916, and by Albert H. Lamson, of Elkins, N. H.

The author begs to apologize in advance for any errors or inaccuracies, which may appear in the book. The difficulties in the way of gathering accurate statistics are very great. Not only do the Town Records and Vital Statistics at times show conflicting data, but personal letters, abstracts from old documents, family bibles, deeds, etc., from which a work like this is largely made up, present a surprising variation in their statistical information. Then, too, awkward gaps occur in certain lines of descent, which must be bridged by painstaking analysis of the facts available, and the most logical inferences and hypotheses have been selected as the probably correct solution of the problem.

The difficulties above mentioned and an unwillingness to record on the printed page any possible inaccuracies which might impair the value of a genealogical work, have led to a diffidence in having this work published. But there is so much that is of interest to William Lamson's descendants, and the author has been requested so many times, by so many people, to have the results of his investigations published, that he offers this book as a record of his gleanings.
