Biography
Dudley Hamilton Howery, Sr was born on December 4, 1910 in Monte Vista, Rio Grande County, Colorado, United States. His parents were Rev. Elmer Phillip Howery and Elizabeth Sophrona "Bertha" (Alloway) Long. He was a Jeweler, Photographer, Owner of Howery's Jewelry.
Dudley married Eva Louise (Horn) Miller on September 24, 1928 in Logan, Harrison Co, Iowa. Together they had the following children: LaVerne Elmer Howery; Eula Melvina (Howery) Howard; Ridge Durand; Fern Howery Stovall; Dean Howery.
Dudley married Hazel Mary (Alloway) Howery on June 5, 1944 in Greeley, CO, United States. Together they had the following children: Bunny JoDean (Howery) Johnson; Delmer LeRoy Howery.
He died on October 19, 1983 in Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming, United States and was buried in Greenhill Cemetery.
Dudley and Eva opened a Photography Studio in Greeley, Colorado mid to late 30's. They moved to Laramie in 1940 where they opened a Photography studio and magazine sundries store. He became interested Jewelry polishing and setting stones. The store evolved into Howery's Jewelry in Laramie, Wyoming continuing to do business until the early 80's. He and Evelyn divorced in the early 40's.
He was a nurseryman (1928, 1933), photographer (1941), owner of Howery's Studio, jeweler (1955), and owner of Howery's Jewelry. He was working at a nursery in Fremont, Nebraska according to his 1928 marriage license. He and his wife moved to Greeley by 1930 (in 1929 according to her obituary), probably at the same time his mother moved there. In 1930 he and his wife were living next door to his mother in Greeley. He was working as a laborer at a nursery. About 1932 he and his wife Evelyn were working for his cousin Fountain Alloway at Wheatland, Wyoming. He was a nurseryman in Greeley in 1933, according to his son's birth certificate. He was later a photographer and lived at 1517 8th Avenue.
He and his family moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1937 (Ridge Durand) or 1942 (Fern Stovall). (His sister Wilma had married Richard Hardy, of Carpenter, Wyoming in 1935.) The 1939 and 1941 city directories of Laramie, Wyoming show him at 1318 S. 3rd Street. He later moved to 1105 Harney Street.
He appears on the 1940 census in a rented house at 509 Harney Street in Laramie: Dudley Howery (29), born in Colorado; wife Evelyn (28), born in Nebraska; daughter Eula (9), born in Colorado; son Dudley Jr. (7), born in Colorado; daughter Fern (3), born in Colorado; and son Ronny (5/12), born in Colorado. He was Proprietor of a "Photo Shop". In 1935 he, his wife, and older children were living in Greeley, Colorado.
In 1941 the City Directory shows him as a photographer. He owned Howery Studio at 296 Ivinson Avenue.
His wife Evelyn left him in 1942. He married his cousin Hazel Alloway in 1944.

In 1955 he was a jeweler, living at 866 N. 4th Street. He owned Howery's on Ivinson Avenue by 1955, and later on N. 3rd Street. By 1974 he was living at 567 N. 8th Street in Laramie, and was still there at the time of his death in 1983. He died of cancer.
