About Earl Sidney Latimer

Earl Sidney Latimer passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 30, 2016.

Earl was born October 17, 1923 in San Francisco, California to James Leroy and Della Edrington Latimer.

At the young age of fifteen, Earl chose to serve his country by enlisting in the National Guard. In 1941, he was transferred to the US Army, and fought in the Pacific alongside his brothers-in-arms of the 184th Infantry during WW II. He was very proud of his service in the military, and earned many Honors, including the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and four Bronze Battle Stars, The American Defense Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two bronze stars, The Combat Infantry Badge, four Overseas Bars and two Service Bars.

In 1946, Earl married his soul mate, Bernice Atkinson, and they spent 57 years together before she passed away in 2003.

Earl was a natural leader in his family and community, and held many positions in the LDS Church over the years. After 35 years with Young Electric Sign Company, Earl retired in 1987 in a Corporate Leadership Role. He also served as President of the Numismatic Association, as well as Vice President of the Utah Allegro Eagles, a motorhome travel club.

He and his beautiful wife had many hobbies that they enjoyed together. Some of these hobbies include beekeeping, fishing, hunting, camping, coin and stamp collecting, landscaping and gardening, quilting, scrapbooking and genealogy.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Atkinson Elg Latimer; parents, James Leroy and Della Edrington Latimer; sisters, Virginia West, Aileen Neely; brother, LeRoy Latimer; and his son-in-law, Kevin Thomas.

Earl is survived by children: Larry and Linda Latimer, Alan and Sharron Latimer, Sheri Green and Penny Thomas; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; sister, Beverly Call.

Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah
