Edward Bruce, Earl of Kincardine, was the eldest son of George Bruce of Carnock and his wife Mary Bruce He: "succeeded his father in 1643, was M.P. for Stirling 1644, was knighted, and being a man of considerable ability was by King Charles I raised to the Peerage, by the titles of Earl of Kincardine and Baron Bruce of Torry, in the Peerage of Scotland, by letters-patent to him and his heirs-male, dated 26 December 1647.
